New Roofing Job Listings Added

Over the course of the last few months there has been a steady increase in traffic here at Roof Info. Our referral logs show that this traffic to be well-informed roofing industry type folk, which is exactly what we were aiming for.
In order to maintain readership and give them more variety, we were thinking why not set up a section for roofing job listings. After researching a variety of job listing sites on the Internet we decided on partnering with Simply Hired.

Roofers Coffee Shop Forum is Down

According to a message at the Roofers Coffee Shop they are having issues with a worm attack and have had to close down the forums. Worm attacks frequently scan the Internet for vulnerabilities in server software and it appears they have found one here.

This June is a big month for conventions. Four roofing/industry related conventions will be taking place. The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI); the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA); Florida Roofing, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association Inc. (FRSA); and Carolinas Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association Inc. (CRSMCA) each will host their respective conventions that month. Each event will feature educational seminars and distributor exhibits.

New OSHA Rule Update: Employer Payment for Personal Protective Equipment

A new rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regarding employer payment for personal protective equipment (PPE) goes into effect on May 15, 2008. The new rule adds provisional language to eliminate the confusion surrounding payment for PPE required to be worn by workers under OSHA standards.

A study that was conducted by Principia Partners shows that Residential and Commercial Roofing is not in a slump. Principia expects demand to Grow 5% Annually by 2012.
Principia Partners is an international strategy consulting firm with experience in building products and construction materials. The firm has closely monitored these markets over the past 10 years through various research efforts.

A Saturday with “Rebuilding Together Aurora”

Rebuilding Together Aurora (formerly Christmas in April Aurora) is a nonprofit, volunteer organization dedicated to helping low-income homeowners, through home renovation and repair.
Its not just the roofs. Every year skilled and unskilled volunteers alike join together in a unique Spring event to repair homes in the Aurora community. Since 1993, the year of the first Rebuilding Day, the Aurora affiliate of the national organization Rebuilding Together rehabilitates and revitalizes the houses of Aurora’s low-income population, particularly the elderly, disabled, and families with children.

MRCA Seeking Quality Project Photos for their Directory

For years MRCA has produced a membership directory. The directory is now being used as a business development tool and is distributed to members, consultants, architects and others within the industry community.
In an effort to increase their library of high-quality photos for use in the directory, the MRCA is looking to their members for quality photos of completed new construction roofing projects from across the spectrum of recognized roofing systems.

The Five W’s of a Leak

Leaks can be elusive. Every good Roofer knows that. After all, that is what the Customer is paying you for. How frustrating for the Roofer to hear “it’s leaking again, in the same spot”.
Knowledge is key and the Customer has most, but not all, of the answers you need. It is the Roofer’s job to get those answers and apply their knowledge, skill and experience to solve a pesky leak.
